How Can I Help Myself?

If hearing voices is distressing for you and is impacting on your health, well-being and day-to-day life, then cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) has been clinically proven to help. CBT can provide a powerful and positive way of coping with distressing voices, helping people to live well, even though the voice hearing may continue.

Getting a greater understanding of your voices and the triggers that cause them can help you to cope with the voices. Recognising the link between your thoughts, beliefs and relationships, and the distressing voices you hear is an important step in re-evaluating those beliefs. Developing assertiveness skills, boosting your self-esteem and setting yourself personal goals for the future will help you reduce the distress around the hearing of voices and reduce their negative impact on your life.
