What Do We Mean By Dementia?
Dementia is not a single disorder but rather a collective term for the symptoms that result from brain damage caused by many diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia. Different types of dementia affect people in different ways. However, common symptoms may include:
- Memory loss
- Cognitive difficulties and confusion
- Language and number difficulties
- Mood changes
- Difficulties with common tasks
- Movement and mobility problems
Dementia is a disease and not a normal consequence of getting older. As the disease progresses, the above problems can become more severe.
