How Can I Help Myself or My Loved One?

The Alzheimer’s Society recommends certain strategies for preventing dementia:

  • Keep physically active
  • Don’t smoke
  • Eat a healthy balanced diet
  • Keep your alcohol within recommended limits
  • Take control of your health
  • Keep to a healthy weight
  • Give your brain a daily workout

It's important to talk to your GP sooner rather than later if you are worried about memory problems or other symptoms in yourself or in a loved one. If you, or someone you know has dementia, there are many sources of support and help you can turn to, who can provide practical, emotional and signposting support. Ask your GP for details.
