How Can I Help Myself?

Cognitive behavioural therapy techniques can help you bring your eating disorder under control so that you learn to live with it in a relaxed and healthy relationship, and eventually to overcome it altogether. Strategies that help include monitoring your eating, introducing a meal plan, challenging the way you think, developing assertiveness, and dealing with your anxieties. Reading about other people’s battles with eating problems can also provide hope and motivation.

If you find that self-help alone is not meeting your needs (and this is sometimes the case), see your family doctor, medical practitioner or specialist therapist, who will offer extra support. If you do need to seek more help, it doesn't mean you have failed in any way; just that your difficulties are perhaps more complex.
